These days, there’s an app for pretty much everything. You can go grocery shopping, cash a check, or get your dry cleaning picked up without having to get up from your comfortable chair—all for a price, of course. With thousands of time saving applications available in the App Store, there are many ways to make your life easier right from your phone. But some of these applications take ease to a whole new level of laziness.

Humorist Will Rogers once said, “Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save.” With that in mind, here are five new solutions that save you valuable time:

1. Mailwise – Read Just What You Need

The ability to use email on mobile devices is a huge time saver. You don’t need to be physically at your computer to check incoming mail, compose a new email or reply to anyone, you can do it all on the go. However, a main drawback of using a mobile phone for email is scrolling through the endless headers, signatures and other non-essential information on your phone’s screen to get to the part you need.

Mailwise is a mobile email solution that addresses the most significant component of every email conversation, the actual content of the email. MailWise enables ‘clean’ conversations – it strips out repetitive information such as signatures and headers within a thread.  It contains just the information in simple, readable text. Also, repetitive notifications can be grouped, so that birthday alerts, newsletters, etc. are all bundled together.

2. Okko – Avoid the Box Office Madness

Every once in a while, usually on a Saturday night, you get the urge to go to the movies to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster everyone’s talking about. But inevitably, by the time you find parking at the theater, wait in line to buy your ticket, get your popcorn and soda, and finally find your seat, you have wasted lots of valuable time and energy, not to mention money.

Okko is a Smart TV service which allows you to enjoy the most sought-after movie releases and world-famous Hollywood blockbusters in Full HD/3D with Dolby Digital Plus sound on Smart TV right from the comfort of your own home. Partnering with all major Hollywood studios and more than 50 European and local distributors, Okko provides a movie catalogue of over 5,500 titles. With Okko, you won’t need to ask what’s playing at your local theater, you can watch it right at home. But unlike going to the movies, at home you can’t leave leftover popcorn on the floor and expect someone to come clean it up for you.

3. 24me – The Next Generation Personal Assistant

Life often feels like an endless ‘To Do’ list: Pay the electric bill, call Mom for her birthday, send the boss a progress report, pick up the kids from soccer practice. Keeping track of everything you need to do is a hassle.

24me is a next generation personal assistant, an app that’s a user-friendly and efficient solution for everything on your ‘To Do’ list. 24me includes a task-management component, Smart Notes, and even sends out cards for family and social events.

24me interacts with real life personal accounts and consumer services such as cable companies and financial institutions, allowing users to pay bills with the touch of a button. The app can also transfer tasks to service providers, like sending someone to pick up your dry-cleaning, saving you time and effort.

24me is also iOS 8 ready with the introduction of a new widget extension allowing quick overview of all your events, tasks, and notes right from the Today screen.

4. Look – Where Are Those Darn Glasses?

Have you ever misplaced your glasses and then spent what seemed like an eternity looking for them? Recent research suggests that, along with keys, glasses are among the most commonly lost items in the home and we spend more than ten minutes each time trying to track them down when we should be heading out the door for work.

Look is a small wearable device with a Bluetooth Low Energy chip inside that users can attach to virtually any type of frame and then pair their glasses with their iOS or Android device. If you misplace your glasses with Look attached, simply open the Look app on your smartphone and tap “Find Glasses.” The Look wearable will send out an audible beep alerting you to your glasses’ general location. As you move toward them the Look app will act acts a visual rangefinder, confirming you’re headed in the right direction. The only foreseeable problem would be if you misplace your mobile phone too.

5. Vivino – Your Personal Sommelier

We’ve all been there; dining out and the waiter recommends the best bottle of wine on the menu, or at a dinner party and tasting an amazing new wine that you’ve never had before. But, there’s no easy way to keep track of these new wines that we discover. You could walk around all the time with a pad of paper and pencil, or maybe just snap photos of the label to keep track, but that’s not a very elegant solution.

Fortunately, Vivino is an app that is designed to help everyone become a wine connoisseur. The app uses your phone’s camera and scans wine bottles to identify the wine. Once the label is scanned, it is automatically analyzed by the app and you are given all the information you could ever want regarding the wine, such as average pricing, reviews, etc. A simple five-star scale classification makes it easy to rank the wine for yourself and your network of friends. Users can also add “tips” or “personal notes.” The vast Vivino database recognizes almost any wine on the market, and quickly!

By allowing Vivino to see your current location, it can find the best rated wines in shops near you and gives you personalized recommendations based on wines you like, saving you lots of time and energy.

6. Private Secretary – Let An App Schedule Your Meetings

Have you ever had a conversation like this? “Let’s have the call on Wednesday at 3:00. No, what about 4:00? Alright, so let’s do Thursday. That doesn’t work? Ok, so let’s meet on Saturday at midnight.” Scheduling a meeting can be a real pain, and that’s why there is an entire profession that helps make it happen. Fortunately, a new app recently arrived that aims to do this for you.

Private Secretary is an iPhone app that automates most of the hassle of scheduling a meeting. Just pick a day and approximate time, and the app will look at your calendar and those of your invitees to find available slots. All of the calendar information is kept private so you only see the times you can actually meet. To really get the full benefit, both sides need to be using the app, but if this catches on it could put all of those real-world secretaries in a tough spot as they try to compete.

In essence, there is nothing wrong with wanting to save time and make your life easier. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy. On the other hand, how much time and effort is really required to do ordinary tasks like selling an item online or scrolling through an email to get to what you need. But being lazy does have at least one advantage. As Bill Gates once said, “I always choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.”

7. HappySale – Sell Your Stuff, Hassle Free

It’s hard to part with ‘stuff’ you’ve had for a long time. It could be anything from your high school guitar to your old bicycle. HappySale believes that selling things should be fun, that it should make you, well, ‘happy’. With the HappySale Android and iPhone apps, HappySale seeks to provide a platform and social network where all users can sell their personal items hassle free.

While in theory selling that old record player or tattered teddy bear with sentimental value might be quick and easy with HappySale, the difficulty might be in finding someone interested in buying what you view as a ‘treasure’, but what some others might simply consider ‘junk’.
